Interview Answers It’s everyone’s nightmare that they’ll be embarrassed at an important job interview by some question that they just don’t know how to answer. For example, what would you say if you were asked this innocent-sounding question? “Have you done the best work you are capable of?” Unless you are ready for it, this one can be quite a trap. If you say ‘yes’, the interviewer is going to ask you why they would want to hire someone who is now starting to go down the hill. If you say ‘no, I haven’t’, they’re going to ask you what you’ve been waiting for. You could lose either way. This kind of double-edged question often unsettles applicants, and puts them at a disadvantage for the rest of their interview. They don’t know which way to turn. Then again, you might be asked : “What parts of your present job do you dislike?” If you say “There aren’t any parts of my job that I dislike”, then the interviewer is going to reply “Why are you leaving then?” If you start giving a list to justify yourself, the interviewer could easily conclude you are just a bit of a moaner, who would be just as much trouble in their job. When companies have more than one applicant for their job, they have to find ways of distinguishing between the candidates. That’s when they ask tricky questions to see how they all react. Those who stumble and fumble will tend to fall to the bottom of the pile. The fact is, the answers you give are all the company has to go on, and you only get one chance. We realized it would be of enormous value to job hunters to know in advance the questions most likely to turn up at their next interview.
